Threads

Threads is built around plain text — no photo is required to post, and most of what you scroll past is words. That makes it the one place where a single well-placed symbol actually catches the eye. On an image-heavy feed a lone star competes with a dozen photos; on Threads, a small ✧ beside your name or a ⋆｡°✩ at the end of a thought reads as a deliberate flourish rather than noise. The trick is to let the text lead and let the decoration quietly punctuate it.

To decorate your profile, open the Threads app, tap the profile tab, choose Edit profile, and select the Bio field. Paste your characters where you want them and tap Done to save — the change shows instantly. Your Threads bio was probably copied over from Instagram when you first signed up, but the two are separate fields now: editing your Threads bio here does not touch your Instagram one, so you can style them differently. Threads posts allow up to 500 characters and honour line breaks, so you can press return and set a ─── ੨♡੧ ─── on its own line to separate sections cleanly. A live character counter ticks down as you type, and any topic tag you add draws from that same 500-character budget, so a heavy symbol border quietly eats into the room you have for words. Because the feed is conversational, restraint wins here. One accent per post — a ⋆ at the start, a soft kaomoji like ( ˶ˆ ᵕ ˆ˶ ) at the end — feels warm and personal; a wall of symbols reads as spam and buries the words people came to read. Save the elaborate combos for your bio, where a little flourish is expected, and keep replies almost bare so a fast-moving conversation stays easy to follow.

Standard Unicode is safe. Stars, hearts, arrows and celestial marks like ✦ ☀ ☾ render the same across the iOS, Android and web versions, and the aesthetic combos here are all built from those dependable glyphs. What to avoid: “fancy font” text (the fake bold and script styles) and heavy stacked or zalgo characters — they lean on glyphs some devices don’t carry and can show up as empty boxes or plain letters. When in doubt, save it as a draft and check it on your phone first.
