Facebook is one of the few feeds where people still write in full paragraphs — birthday tributes, group announcements, long life updates — so a single ♥ or ★ dropped into the flow does a lot of work. To add one, tap the “What's on your mind?” box at the top of your feed (or the comment field under any post), place your cursor where you want it, and paste the character you copied here. Post it, and the symbol travels with your text exactly where you left it. A ★ in front of a milestone or a ♥ closing a thank-you note reads warmer than plain punctuation, without turning the whole update into decoration.

Because Facebook happily accepts far longer posts than Instagram or X, dividers genuinely earn their place here. When you're writing a multi-part recap, a memorial, or a set of group rules, a line like ─── ୨♡୧ ─── between sections gives the eye somewhere to rest. Two things to know: Facebook collapses long posts behind a “See more” link after the first few lines, so keep your hook and your first divider near the top; and to create the blank lines a divider sits on, just press Return — on the mobile app the return key inserts a new line rather than posting.

Facebook has a long history with classic text emoticons. Type :) or <3 in a Messenger chat and Facebook still auto-swaps them for a coloured emoji — but in a normal feed post, a pasted emoticon stays exactly as typed. That means kaomoji like ( ´▽｀) survive intact in your status and comments, which is handy when you want a face with more personality than the built-in emoji tray offers. If you specifically want the literal characters and not the auto-emoji, paste them rather than typing the keyboard shortcut.

The same symbol can look different depending on where your reader is. On the desktop site, ♥ and ★ usually render as slim monochrome glyphs drawn by the system font; open that identical post in the Facebook app on a phone and many of those characters are upgraded to full-colour emoji versions. Rarer decorative glyphs sometimes fall back to an empty box □ or a question mark on a device whose fonts don't include them. Before you lean on an unusual character in an important post, it's worth checking how it actually looks on your own phone.

Your profile is stricter than the feed. Facebook's real-name policy actively rejects decorative characters in your actual name field, and it locks your name for 60 days after any change — so that is the one place to skip symbols entirely. Instead, put them where Facebook is relaxed: your short bio, the Intro panel, Featured details and the About section all keep pasted ♥ or ★ without complaint. Business and creator Pages are far more lenient than personal profiles, so a Page title can often carry a symbol your personal name cannot.

Symbols behave the same in comments, Group posts, Marketplace listings and Event titles as they do in a status, so you can paste freely across all of them. One courtesy worth remembering: Facebook's audience skews broader and older than most platforms, and screen readers announce every symbol out loud — a row of stars is read as “black star, black star, black star.” A single ♥ or one divider adds warmth; a wall of glyphs makes a post harder for some of your friends to read, so a light touch travels furthest here.
